Key Learnings & Reflection

1. End-to-End Design Process

Throughout this project, I gained a deeper understanding of the complete design process, from initial research and concept development to final execution and presentation. Focusing on an eCommerce platform allowed me to grasp the essential steps involved in creating a user-centered digital product, ensuring both aesthetics and functionality are aligned with business goals.

2. Project Management and Collaboration

Working in a small team of two, under the guidance of our lecturer who played the role of Product Owner, I learned the importance of collaboration and effective project management. This dynamic helped us organise tasks, manage our time efficiently, and constantly adapt our approach to meet the product requirements while maintaining a smooth workflow.

3. eCommerce Insights through Research

Through observation and through conducting market and competitor research and interviews, I gained practical insights into the structure, trends, and functionalities of eCommerce platforms. This research-oriented approach enhanced my understanding of key features of user experience design in eCommerce.

4. Technical Skills with WordPress and HTML/CSS

One of the major learnings was acquiring hands-on experience with WordPress to build a functional eCommerce site. While the platform’s drag-and-drop features were intuitive, customsing specific elements using basic HTML and CSS allowed for more flexibility, helping us achieve a polished, tailored product.

5. Documenting and Planning the Design Process

I came to appreciate the importance of documenting every step of the process, from initial ideas to design choices and feedback integration. Proper documentation not only helps with personal reflection and accountability but also strengthens stakeholder communication, allowing for clearer collaboration and transparency in decision-making.
